Ramen Nagi at SM Aura

Image
Famous Butao from HK has arrived in PH and we call it: Ramen-nagi! We visited the SM Aura branch on Labor Day and had a late merienda (snack). Am not surprised at all to see a long waiting line outside. Good thing the orders arrive within 15mins so that meanszf Saving the best halves for last... My date... + shots with his date!

BBQ Sukiyaki Steak Rice Bowl

I miss BEEF already!  Good thing dad is a fan of sukiyaki-cut beef. These packs are a regular in our freezer since dad believes that these are very versatile: for soup, grilling, as additional meat in dishes... and I've loved it ever since. I'm kinda feeling lazy to experiment so since we all love rice toppings, I just steamed our left-over rice on the stove. To think I cooked a lot last night in preparation for breakfast coz dad said we ran out of bread already.  Well, he went out early this morning and brave the heavy rains & flooded streets to the nearest bakery 2 blocks away to buy fresh pandesal! Alright, let's get back to the beef. Take 'em out of the freezer a good 2hrs before cooking to thaw nicely. Soak (together in its container) in room temp water to hasten thawing process.  Then look through your pantry for your mom's magic potion. My mom's is this: Soak just enough for the meat. I placed three tbsp for eac...

Ganso-Shabuway Japanese Hot Pot, Greenbelt5

Image
When it rains, hot soup usually comes into mind, doesn't it? So after a long tiring day at work, what better way to reward ourselves for a very productive work week? F O O D. I've always passed by this Japanese shabuX2 place and thought nothing much about it since we usually enjoy it at home or at a nearby QC joint.  We scanned the menu and decided it was worth a try. P750 for a set meal for two: - veggie plate - cup of sticky gohan - Angus beef plate Dipping sauces are very flavourful: soy base and peanut. Condiments on the side includes spring onions, minced garlic, chili powder, chili oil.  Choice of soup base in two flavors: we got chili and regular miso... oooh, I can't wait! Veggie plate: tofu, carrots, golden mushrooms, tagalog pechay And this... is the surprisingly humongous Angus beef plate! I am soooo happy I almost got teary-eyed with the serving! Yes, we were more than satisfied and our tummies are definitely happy.

Nomama, again?!

Image
Yes, this time I brought the whole family! Famished after a day of shopping, I know the bellies are eager for a hot, hearty meal. 3 points for us: -Good that we came a few minutes earlier than the slew of hungry groupies who trooped to where we're at. -Good that wecalled in to say we need 5 seats and we'll be there in less than 15mins! -Good that we ordered the mushroom gyoza in advance so we had something to chomp on before the real deal 7 points for nomama: -Pick-up something to read: various publications which features Chef Him/ nomama while... -Others can tinker with their gadgets plus the resto have free wifi with a cool password -Fast, very attentive staff: warm water and cold water for different people were timely replenished -Staff does not look harassed even if the clients keep on pouring in -Chef Him is in charge and his presence sets a responsive alertness to the team as evidently seen in their open kitchen -Very good food, been here 3x and the taste is ...

Roll out the sesame seeds cause here we come! What a nice day to date my mom! Magnolia Mall is homey, an classy enough to make a parent proud to be "dated" at. My mom ain't a bug eater but I really want her to try this extremely popular place for katsu. It's harder to get tables during the weekends with the whole family on board. You have to wait for hours for yout turn to be seated! I would get a scolding from the guys in my family if this will be the case. So here I come with my mom in tow. No complains about the line cause it's 2pm already... We still ha to wait for at least 15mins to be seated though. Ok so here's my mom's two cents: - very soft pork, good quality - nice cooking - nice presentation - humongous serving (for her frane) - noisy place - such hulabaloo for katsu! - very attentive staff (my comment) - interesting sauce choices (she had fun crushing & mixing the sesame seeds) - would come back but need to share dish with my b...
